Sir George Newnes
Sir George Newnes was a Victorian philanthropist. His love for Lynton & Lynmouth led to him to create the funicular Cliff Railway - a staggering engineering feat at the time - and to build Lynton Town Hall, famously declaring it was given to "Lynton and Lynmouth for ever."
Our history
With the grand staircase, octagonal stone turrets and elegant wood panelling, English Heritage has described Lynton Town Hall as "one of the finest Domestic Revival examples of its type in the country". It has been at the heart of our community since opening more than 125 years ago.
As well as being home to Lynton & Lynmouth Town Council & the Lynton Community Bookshop, Lynton Town Hall is the perfect place to celebrate your wedding, anniversary or birthday and for meetings, classes, workshops, events & exhibitions.  Â
